Procedural Text

Definitions

1.     Procedural Text is a text which is designed to desvribe how sth is achieved through a sequence of action s or steps.the most commen example is a recipe.
2.     Text that explain how sth works or how to use instructions/operations manuals

The Generic Structures :

Goal (Title) 

What is The Goal or outcome of the activity.

Materials or Ingredients

What will we need to complete this activity. Be specific (Use points/numbers) include any special tools.

Steps/Methods

The Actions that must be taken. Use action verbs (Imperative Sentences & Simple Present tense)

Conclusion 

A short statement that may offer specific tips.

Language Features :

Use simple Present tense.

Use Imperatives

e.g : Cut.., Don’t Mix

Use action verbs

e.g : Turn, Put, Mix

Use Connectives 

e.g : first, then, finally.

Use adverbial phrases.

E.g : 

For Five minutes, 2 cm from the tops.

Note

1. Use Action Verbs : drill, cut, fold, etc
2. Focuse on general people rather than individual.Ex : You should beat the egg vigorously rather than I should beat the egg vigorously.
3. Use of Connectives or Temporal conjunctions e.g. : first, second, next, when, then, after that, finally.
4. Give detailed information : How, where, when
5. Detailed description : Number your steps, write each step on new line.
6. Use modal verb pattern.e.g. : You might add some chilies, if you like.

The steps to operate computer:

• Before plug of powering up the computer system, make sure that the power cable is connected to the back panel of the CPU and is plugged into the electric socket.
• Make sure the video cable is already connected to the monitor and the back panel of CPU correctly.
• Make sure other devices such as mouse and keyboard have connected to the back panel of CPU in the right side. Other hardware can also be connected such as speaker, printer, and so forth.
• When everything is plugged in securely, then press the power button on the CPU is usually located on the front panel of the CPU.
• The computer will display the Windows logo and displays the desktop image
• Once the desktop image appears then the computer is ready to operate
• The proper way to shut down or turn off the computer system is by clicking on the ‘Start’ button and choosing the ‘Turn Off Computer’ option. This then will display the options to ‘Standby’, ‘Restart’, or ‘Turn Off’ the CPU. Click ‘Turn Off’ to turning off the computer.
